The RP Lite is SG's answer to a common complaint about players' gloves: that the protection you want makes the glove feel like a boxing mitt. Instead of traditional sausage rolls, every finger on both hands carries a rounded moulded insert. You keep full-length coverage but lose a lot of the bulk, and the glove flexes where your fingers do.

Who these gloves suit

Good fit for: white-ball and T20 batting, players who bat with quick hands and want to feel the handle, and anyone who has tried traditional roll gloves and found them clumsy. Also a strong option in warmer conditions - the spacer mesh back and nylon gussets move a lot more air than a solid-backed glove.

Consider something else if: you play mostly two-day or red-ball cricket on hard, uneven wickets. Moulded inserts protect well, but a traditional sausage roll glove like the MRF Genius Prince gives more forgiveness on a rap across the knuckles. What does "Lite" actually mean here?

The weight saving comes from the finger construction, not from thinner padding. A traditional glove wraps foam rolls in polyurethane along each finger. The RP Lite uses a shaped rigid insert instead, which covers the same area with less material. What size SG batting gloves do I need?

Measure in a straight line from the base of your palm, where your wrist starts, to the tip of your middle finger. Between two sizes, go up - particularly if you wear inner gloves.

Looking after leather batting gloves

Air them out after every innings rather than sealing them into your kit bag; trapped sweat is what destroys a leather palm. Never dry them on a heater, in a car or in direct sun. Cotton inner gloves will roughly double the life of the palm and improve the fit.
